Esmiralde, Zestien Jaar in 9 Scènes
The main character in ‘Esmiralde, sixteen years in 9 scenes’ is explosive and desperately looking for love and support. She grew up with a lot of fights and violence, and her parents are separated and don’t pay much attention to her. She lives with her grandma, who suffers of kidney failure and is often tired. Esmiralde appears to be very mature, but sometimes she can’t control herself and things escalate. When she does not come home one night, however, she feels that her grandma and mother do want to be there for her. Tenderness, anger, and humor interchange in nine scenes, never leaving Esmirade’s perspective. Every emotion, reaction, and doubt is very closely watched. The only havens of peace are stills of city landscapes, in which Esmiralde reflects upon herself in voice-over.
